Dr. Sujatha Gunnala, a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist, founded Southwest Fertility Center in 1980. A distinguished medical graduate, she holds a gold medal in Internal Medicine and ranked second in her graduating class across all clinical subjects. Dr. Gunnala is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, actively contributing to advancements in reproductive medicine through research, lectures, and clinical trials. Known as "The Laser Queen" for her expertise in Advanced Laser Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopic surgeries, she's helped countless women with infertility due to endometriosis, fibroids, and other conditions. A pioneer, she started the IVF program at Southwest Fertility Center in the late 1980s. Dr. Gunnala is passionate about helping women achieve motherhood, drawing from her personal experiences to understand the emotional challenges. She is married with two sons who are also physicians and is a proud grandmother of six. In her free time, she enjoys family, especially her grandchildren, and is a generous donor and active volunteer at the Maha Ganapati Temple of Arizona.

Dr. Vinay Gunnala’s published works

Dr. Vinay Gunnala was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He received his undergraduate degree in Mammalian Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego, and his medical degree from the University of Arizona, College of Medicine in Tucson. He then completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he received a medical student teaching award as a senior resident. He then completed his fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the world-renowned Center for Reproductive Medicine at Weill Cornell. He is double board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Gunnala specializes in all aspects of reproductive medicine, offering patients a full range of fertility services including ovulation induction, egg freezing for fertility preservation, oncopreservation, oocyte donation, and IVF/ICSI with and without preimplantation genetic testing. His clinical expertise extends to numerous reproductive challenges such as amenorrhea, PCOS, recurrent pregnancy loss, endometriosis, and he is a proud supporter of LGBTQ reproductive rights. In addition, he is a skilled minimally invasive surgeon for advanced operative hysteroscopy and advanced laparoscopy.

The depth of Dr. Gunnala's clinical practice is mirrored by his vast contribution of clinical research to the scientific field. He has published several original research articles that are featured in peer-reviewed journals such as Fertility and Sterility, PLoS One, and Human Reproduction. His research interests include a variety of topics, including investigating IVF challenges in women of advanced age, elective and medically indicated fertility preservation, and minimizing the incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. He has given several oral presentations on various research topics at national meetings and has published over 30 scientific abstracts. Dr. Gunnala is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a current member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. He has verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his loving wife and 3 children: Dhillan, Dhara and DJ. He enjoys trying to relive his Brophy baseball days by staying active in athletics and coaching his kids' sports teams. Living in New York City for a little less than a decade was an amazing experience, but he and his wife are happy to be back home to their roots and spend more time with family and friends.

She is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based fertility care while building strong, trusting relationships with her patients. She believes every fertility journey is unique and emphasizes patient education, open communication, and shared decision-making to ensure individuals and couples feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their care. Born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Kummer developed an early passion for science and medicine. She earned her bachelor's degree in Genetics and Cell Development from the University of Minnesota before attending Chicago Medical School. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University, where she received the Best Laparoscopic Surgeon Award in recognition of her exceptional surgical skills. She then completed her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Connecticut, earning the Best Academic Instructor Award and becoming the first fellow in the program's history to receive this distinction. Following her fellowship, Dr. Kummer joined the faculty at Yale University as an Assistant Professor, where she combined her passions for patient care, education, research, and physician mentorship before relocating to Arizona to be closer to family. A recognized educator in reproductive medicine, Dr. Kummer is the developer and program director of a comprehensive board review course that helps reproductive endocrinologists prepare for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology subspecialty certification examination in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She is passionate about advancing physician education and contributing to the continued growth of the specialty.

Dr. Kummer provides comprehensive fertility evaluation and treatment for individuals and couples experiencing a wide range of reproductive concerns. Her clinical interests include fertility preservation through egg and embryo freezing, particularly for individuals who wish to delay childbearing and for patients preparing to undergo cancer treatment. She also has extensive experience caring for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), recurrent pregnancy loss, diminished ovarian reserve, endometriosis, and other complex fertility conditions. She is deeply committed to providing inclusive, affirming care for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples and is honored to help every patient pursue their unique path to parenthood. As both a reproductive endocrinologist and a mother, Dr. Kummer understands that building a family is one of life's most meaningful and personal journeys. Nurse Practitioner

Shelley is one of four providers at Southwest Fertility Center and is a valued member of the team. For over three decades, Shelley has been planting seeds of hope and helping families grow. We are grateful that Southwest Fertility Center has been privileged to share in 16 years of her remarkable legacy. Hailing from Chicago with a BS in Nursing from DePaul University and a MS in Nursing from the University of Illinois, she has earned numerous accolades during her academic and professional careers.

In 1991, Shelley entered the US Navy as a nurse, serving 4 years as a Lieutenant, earning The Navy Commendation Medal, which is presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. In 1995, Shelley entered the field of infertility as an IVF coordinator and in 2000 earned her certification as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner.

Shelley's job description could fill a novel. She grills, sews, plasters, bakes, tiles, sutures, grouts, builds, demolishes, paints, decorates, listens, and fixes—often all before lunch. Whether she's providing patient care, creating, repairing, problem-solving, or simply being there when it matters most, Shelley is the hands, the heart, and the foundation of everything we do. SWFC is grateful to have her as a provider and would be lost without her!

Shelley's empathy isn't something she learned from a textbook—it's something she has lived. Having endured four IVF cycles herself, she understands the emotional highs, heartbreaking lows, and unwavering hope that often accompany the journey through infertility. That personal experience allows her to connect with patients in a way that only someone who has walked a similar path can.

Today, Shelley is the proud mother of three remarkable sons—a testament to perseverance, hope, and love. Her oldest is married and a practicing dentist in Tulsa, Oklahoma; her middle son is building a successful career with Honeywell; and her youngest son, younger by just one minute, recently married and is practicing dentistry in Henderson, Kentucky.

This fall marks the beginning of Shelley's next chapter in life as she becomes "Grandma" for the very first time. She is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a baby girl and couldn't be happier to welcome another wonderful woman into the Rosander family. After a lifetime surrounded by boys, she's delighted to have a little granddaughter to love, spoil, and cherish.

Yvonne brings more than 25 years of experience in reproductive medicine, with extensive expertise in patient care, IVF coordination, and egg donor programs. After graduating with honors from medical assisting school in 1999, she began her career in reproductive medicine and has since held progressive roles in patient care, including Patient Care Coordinator, IVF Coordinator and Medical Assistant. Throughout her career, she has guided patients through every step of their fertility journey with compassion, expertise, and personalized support.

In 2022, Southwest Fertility Center was proud to welcome Yvonne to our team. Her extensive background in reproductive medicine, developed through experience in a variety of fertility care settings, has made her an invaluable member of our practice. Lana earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Mesa Community College and completed her ultrasound training through Gateway Community College in 1991. She has dedicated her career to providing exceptional fertility care while continually expanding her knowledge and expertise in reproductive medicine.

As a breast cancer survivor, Lana brings a uniquely personal perspective to caring for patients facing a cancer diagnosis and the difficult decision of fertility preservation. She understands the uncertainty and emotions that accompany this journey and is deeply committed to providing compassionate guidance, encouragement, and hope to patients during this challenging time.

Outside of work, Lana enjoys spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, and twin sister, who are the center of her world. Holding a Master’s Degree in Embryology, as well as prestigious ABB board certifications as a clinical laboratory Technical Supervisor and Embryology Lab Director, he possesses a wealth of expertise and experience in the highly specialized realm of reproductive medicine. Throughout his career, he has consistently delivered exceptional results in the complex and ever-evolving landscape of IVF. His adeptness in managing IVF processes, coupled with a profound understanding of embryology and technical supervision, has ensured that patients receive the highest standard of care and that laboratories are efficiently and effectively operated. With a dedicated commitment to advancing the field, Charles has demonstrated exceptional proficiency in conducting hormone analyses using numerous different immunoassay systems. Senior Embryologist

Sahil "Sam" joined Southwest Fertility Center in 2026 as a Senior Clinical Embryologist.  He is dedicated to helping individuals and couples achieve their dreams of building a family through compassionate, high-quality fertility care. Working closely with the physicians and IVF laboratory team, Sam combines scientific precision with personalized care to ensure every embryo receives the highest level of attention, always striving to achieve the best possible outcomes for each patient.

Since beginning his career in embryology in 2017, Sam has developed extensive expertise in all aspects of assisted reproductive technology (ART), including embryo culture, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), embryo biopsy, cryopreservation, and laboratory quality management. He is committed to maintaining the highest laboratory standards while embracing new technologies, evidence-based practices, and continuous quality improvement to support successful IVF treatment. Sam has a strong passion for reproductive research and innovation. His work explores the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to better understand embryo development, improve embryo selection, and advance personalized fertility care. By integrating emerging technologies with proven laboratory practices, he hopes to contribute to improved pregnancy outcomes and the future of reproductive medicine. He holds a postgraduate degree in Medical Clinical Embryology and is dedicated to lifelong learning, scientific excellence, and advancing the field of reproductive medicine. Above all, Sam understands the profound trust patients place in the IVF laboratory and is committed to ensuring every embryo is cared for with exceptional skill, precision, and respect. Outside the laboratory, Sam enjoys embryo and gamete photography using high-resolution microscopy. Lindsay

Senior Embryologist

Dr. Lindsay Rasmussen earned her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science in 2014, followed by a Master of Science in Reproductive Biology and Toxicology in 2016 and a Ph.D. in Reproductive Biology and Toxicology in 2019, all from the University of Arizona. Her graduate research focused on the effects of phthalates, phthalate substitutes, and other plasticizers on female fertility at environmentally relevant human exposure levels. Her research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed scientific journals and has contributed to advancing the scientific understanding of how environmental chemicals and microplastics may influence reproductive health.

Throughout her career, Dr. Rasmussen has worked in a variety of IVF and andrology laboratories across Arizona, including fertility clinics, a specialized andrology laboratory associated with a vasectomy reversal surgical center, and reproductive laboratory start-up programs. She has extensive experience in all aspects of embryology and assisted reproductive technologies and is passionate about combining scientific excellence, meticulous laboratory practices, and innovation with compassionate, patient-centered care.
Dr. Rasmussen also understands the fertility journey from a deeply personal perspective. As a fertility patient herself, she experienced the process of fertility preservation firsthand. This experience provided her with a deeper appreciation for the physical, emotional, mental, and financial challenges many patients face throughout treatment. It has strengthened her commitment to approaching every patient with empathy and treating every embryo with the same care, respect, and attention she would want for her own.
Outside of the laboratory, Dr. Rasmussen and her husband enjoy life on their ranch in East Tucson, where they care for a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, a miniature horse, a miniature donkey, sheep, goats, and cattle. When she is not in the laboratory, she enjoys the peaceful balance of ranch life and spending time with the animals that make their home so special.

Zach joined Southwest Fertility Center as an Andrologist in January 2023, bringing a strong scientific foundation and a passion for advancing reproductive medicine. Specializing in andrology and endocrinology, he plays an important role in supporting the fertility laboratory by performing specialized diagnostic testing and procedures that contribute to accurate diagnoses and successful treatment outcomes. Zach is committed to maintaining the highest laboratory standards while providing reliable, precise results that help providers and patients make informed decisions throughout the fertility journey.
Zach earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Arizona State University, where he developed a strong interest in laboratory science and human physiology. He is dedicated to continually expanding his knowledge and staying current with advancements in reproductive medicine to ensure patients receive the highest quality care. Originally born in Missouri, Zach has called Arizona home since the age of four and is proud to serve the community where he grew up. Outside of the laboratory, he enjoys running with his dog, building LEGO® creations, and spending time with his wife and son. As a family, they enjoy riding bikes together and making the most of Arizona's beautiful outdoors.

Norma has been an integral member of the Southwest Fertility Center team for the past five years. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she is the friendly face who welcomes patients each day while taking pride in creating a positive and reassuring first impression. Her kind nature, attentive approach, and genuine enjoyment of connecting with others help patients feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they arrive. Ann brings to Southwest Fertility Center more than 40 years of nursing experience in women's healthcare, including over 20 years specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). She is a Board-Certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University. Throughout her career, Ann has been dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care while helping patients navigate the complexities of fertility treatment with confidence and understanding. At Southwest Fertility Center, Ann coordinates embryo transfer cycles, ensuring each patient receives personalized guidance and support throughout this important stage of their fertility journey. She understands that fertility treatment can often feel overwhelming and is committed to providing knowledgeable, compassionate care while helping patients feel informed, reassured, and supported every step of the way. Her calm demeanor, clinical expertise, and genuine compassion make her a trusted resource for patients and colleagues alike. Outside of work, Ann enjoys spending time with her husband of more than 40 years, fishing, exploring the outdoors and training her Parson Russell terrier, Piper.
